The Sidney Housing Initiative
The Sidney Housing Initiative is a focused effort from various community partners and experts to align resources, coordinate activities, and develop partnerships in order to address the housing challenges and opportunities facing the city of Sidney. With aging housing stock requiring investment at a time of economic uncertainty internationally as a result of macro economic pressures on one hand, and the significant economic growth of Sidney and Shelby County from recent announcements of new investments from companies-- like SEMCORP-- on the other hand; a coordinated response to maximize the opportunity for the community to grow and experience reinvestment while seeking to avoid potential unforeseen negative impacts from limited housing supply is underway.
The initiative combines a partnership lead by the City of Sidney and the Sidney-Shelby Economic Development Partnership, the initiative works in direct coordination with other key entities such as the Sidney-Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, Community Improvement Corporation of Sidney, Habitat for Humanity of Shelby and Miami County, and the Shelby County Land Reutilization Corporation; among others not named here and further partnerships being developed. The initiative has also worked with the Sidney Housing Steering Committee to provide guidance and direct feedback from key stakeholders, business owners, and community members into the unique challenges and opportunities facing the community from their vantage points.
